Effective Mapping pictures?

Did anyone take any pictures at the Effective Mapping workshop? My note seem a little disjointed and I'm trying to get a visual of how one of the maps looked (just the post-it ones we did on the tables). If anyone took photos, please let me know.

Say it ain't so

Currently listening to Weezer's song, it now invariably reminds me of that Microsoft party on Saturday night of the conference. I guess it was the easiest song to play on Rock Band, oh Good Times :-D

transfer over to Faceboooook

Nobody's taking the site down, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't transfer your contacts to a permanent home. Look for the VCard export on your my network page.

Reflections on Conference

What a terrific conference! I must say, I'm really pumped up about our field and am actively sharing what I learned with my team. I posted my key takeaways on my blog here if you're interested: http://www.prestonsmalley.com/2008/02/reflections-on...

Comment to: Vishal lyer

Hi Vishal, to be honest, I've been putting off answering that question. The normal rule here is that the crowdvine site gets suspended, but sorta maintained for a while, but b/c of our rabid habit of talking our host is thinking of beta testing an "alumni" feature that would be brand new just for us.

My fault for not getting to meet, I am so sorry...we'll have to next year!

Comment to: ji kim

Hi,
As you requested, I have uploaded the PDF version of my presentation on my blog: http://www.ssdesigninteractive.com/bl... (the small link below the video). Its about 30 mb due to the highres images.

Also I have put it up on slideshare (which might be faster then downloading the PDF):

Capturing the vibe

Interaction08 was a watershed event for the current generation of designers. People from all areas of the discipline converged and saw what they have in common: a serious interest in the purposeful exploration of alternatives that can lead to cons...

Comment to: Don Habas

the hat stays, along with the Patriots pajamas on my man here...although you could consider them a choking hazard these days...kinda like an Eli jersey

Comment to: Josh Corringham

Get rid of that hat.

Comment to: Deneva Goins

Wow...thanks for the additional titles! See you around New York, yes?

Comment to: Cindy Chastain

This one might be useful too: Digital Storytelling: The Narrative Power of Visual Effects in Film
by Shilo T. McClean (Amazon).

Comment to: Cindy Chastain

This one is a pretty good book too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0262...

Comment to: Pauric

Comment to: Deneva Goins

Hey Deneva...no I haven't seen it. Thanks for the rec. It looks really interesting.

Comment to: Joel Linderman

Nice profile image, Joel. Very YOU.

Comment to: Angel Anderson

Yes, The Fitts surely went down in (IxDA) musical history! Totally worth the humiliation. Next time let's pick a song we actually know though... and give ourselves a fighting chance ;)

Comment

Good to meet you too Matt! We definitely should arrange a catch up in London.

Comment to: Susan Wyche

Susan, it was really nice to run into you! I regret missing your talk, but I will definitely check it out once they post them all online. Best of luck with the rest of your research :)

Some "Take Aways" from the conference ...

Alan Cooper:
- programmers respect competence not authority -- they can't be managed, only "facilitated"
- there is no real scarcity of time and money, yet we are confronted with that scarcity every day

Gretchen Anderson
- the difference between a newspaper report and a story
- synthesize detail
- "don't be afraid to be wrong, be afraid of not making a statement"

Carl DiSalvo
- most people have no experience with design: you don't go home and prototype dinner, you just make it

Bill DeRouchey
- make a specific button the "hero"

Gabriel White
- provide people with an understanding of their own behavior

Bill Buxton
- Your value lies in your distinctiveness

Aza Raskin
- don't force users to ask for more content, just give it to them!
- create a "moment of delight"

Jenny Lam
- software is both art & craft
- emotion and idea are supreme
- designers think with their hands and have the ability to communicate through actions

Comment to: Matt Jones

Awesome talk at the conference, Matt!

hey robert, let me know if you're ever heading to toronto and we can make plans to meet.. i'll do the same if i'm heading your way.

Comment

I was wondering how Crowdvine will be used after the conference when this post came up in the online forum

"All of Adaptive Path's events for 2008 (UXI, MX, UX Week) will be using Crowdvine. If you already have an account, just join the new conference's community. All of your history in Crowdvine s stitched together for a cohesive experience across all participating conferences."

Nice!

Comment to: Meredith Noble

I'm glad we took the big risk even though it meant getting ousted in a giant fireball of musical failure. Besides you came up with the perfect IxDA band name, so what else did we really need?
