IxD for the creative process - Anyone else interested?

Posted Thursday, January 3, 12:31PM

Hey all... I've recently started thinking beyond my day-to-day duties of doing IxD for business and have become very interested in the idea of designing interactions for the creative process. Personally, I'm an electronic music fanatic, and as such I rely on machines that I interact with in order to make my "art" (or as some would say, ear-splitting noise). Time and again my creative process has been hindered by poor interaction design. So how do you design machines, instruments, etc. that not only get out of the artist's way but facilitate creativity?

Is anyone else interested in this? If so, let's set up a lunch or dinner in Savannah!

Hi Fred,

I'm really a word and image girl myself, but find the ideas you present here very interesting. I've definitely practiced information architecture for the creative process....if that even applies. Perhaps there's some intersection? In any case, it would still be great to meet a designer who also has an art form.

Cheers,
Cindy

That sounds like an amazing idea - having done 3d animation for other jobs, I have definitely bumped up against the technology barrier when it comes to trying to be expressive. I'd love to ponder over some tasty food and beverage. :)

It also sounds like an interesting way to look at 'gaming' - with the popularity of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, I've seen amongst my own cousins a transition from playing those with friends to wanting real guitars/drums/music lessons. Maybe it's a fad, but it's always fun to see that kind of transition.

It sounds like there are enough people interested in this to make it worthwhile, so let's do it! How about dinner on the 9th? As to where, I don't know Savannah at all, so I'm open to suggestions. In the absence of suggestions, I naturally gravitate toward Asian food and will seek that out. : )

Should be a fun discussion!

I can't offer much in terms of Savannah recommendations, but I'm always down for some tasty Asian food!

I found a few good options... Asian food seems to be a decent hike away, but there's a restaurant called "The Chart House" that's nearby and got some good reviews.

Google maps, where would I eat without thee? : )

Let's plan on meeting outside the main entrance of The River Club at 6:30 on Saturday.

Now, somehow I have to concentrate on work today instead of dreaming about the conference...
